Some questions that people always want to know
We understand there are a lot of companies offering man and van services and house removals in Brighton and Sussex. We treat every client as a separate project and tailor our service around you, because no home, access route or moving day is ever the same. Each removals job brings its own challenges and solutions, and our aim is always to keep your move calm, careful and well organised from start to finish.
With hundreds of five star Google reviews, we consistently provide reliable Brighton removals, Sussex house moves and man and van services, and we would be happy to do the same for you.
A man and van service is perfect for small moves, whether you need a single item transported, a student move or a few bulky items shifted across Brighton. You get a man with a van for an hour or two, keeping things quick, flexible and cost effective.
A full house removal is a more complete, stress free moving service for larger homes, where our experienced team handles everything from packing and loading to safe transport and unloading. Your Brighton or Sussex house move is fully planned and in safe hands with us.
At ESV Removals Ltd we started out as a man and van service in Brighton and have grown into a trusted Brighton removal firm and Brighton and Sussex removals company, moving homes locally, across Sussex and further afield. Whether you are relocating around the corner or to a new part of the UK or Europe, we focus on making your move smooth, efficient and as calm as possible.
We plan most Brighton and Sussex removals during normal daytime hours, but we know evenings and weekends are often the easiest time for people to move. We are very used to working early mornings, evenings and weekends and are happy to accommodate this wherever possible.
For office removals in both London and Brighton we regularly work outside usual office hours so that your business can keep running with minimal disruption. In some cases we can also arrange overnight deliveries and long distance moves by agreement, so if you have specific timings in mind just let us know when you request your quote.
For weekend house moves and month end dates we recommend booking as soon as your move date is confirmed, as these slots go first. For smaller Brighton man and van jobs we can sometimes help at shorter notice, especially midweek, but the more notice you give us the easier it is to plan parking, access and timings. Even if your dates are still flexible, it is worth getting in touch so we can pencil options and give you a clear idea of cost. Until a deposit is paid your date is not set in stone.
For most studio flats and many one bedroom flats a Sprinter is more than enough, especially when everything is boxed and stacked properly. We recently moved a full basement studio from Folkestone to Maresfield in one Sprinter load, including boxes, bags, furniture, mattress, shelving and computer equipment. When we put your quote together we will talk through your item list and access to confirm whether a Sprinter is right or whether a Luton would be safer for your Brighton or Sussex move.
If you think you are contagious with any illness, including Covid-19, please let us know as soon as possible. In many cases we can still complete your Brighton or Sussex move without you being present, or we can work together to rearrange to a different date if that is safer for everyone. We will do the same on our side if anyone in our team is unwell. The aim is to keep your move running smoothly while following current health guidance and protecting both you and our staff.
For most Brighton and Sussex removals and man and van jobs we take payment after the work is completed. We generate a digital invoice and email it to you, and you can pay securely by bank transfer. For longer distance or higher value moves we may request a deposit in advance, which will be clearly explained in your quote.
For Brighton removals and house moves across Sussex, good parking makes a big difference to how smooth and efficient the move is. If there is a driveway, a private bay, or space to pull up close to the door, that is ideal.
If parking is tight, pay and display, permit only, or on a busy road, tell us in advance and we will advise on what usually works at each address. In some cases a bay suspension is worth considering, but councils set the rules, fees and lead times, so this is always something to plan early if you think you may need it.
We can offer different levels of packing support for Brighton and Sussex removals, from supplying boxes and tape for you to pack yourself through to a full packing service. For many customers a part pack works well, where we professionally pack fragile items such as kitchen glassware, pictures and technology and you handle clothes and books. If you are interested in packing help just let us know when you request a quote and we can include it as a separate option.
We understand that solicitors, chains and keys can all move dates around, especially on Brighton and Sussex house moves. If your date changes, tell us as soon as possible and we will do our best to move your booking to the new day, subject to availability. Our exact cancellation terms depend on how close you are to moving day, but we always try to be fair and transparent and we will send you our terms and conditions in writing when you book.
To be covered under our goods in transit insurance, your TV needs to be in its original packaging or equivalent protection. If you do not have the original box, please tell us before your Brighton or Sussex move so we can advise you on the best way to protect it and make clear what is and is not covered by our removals insurance.
Yes, we can move garden furniture, BBQs and plants as part of our Brighton and Sussex removals service, but there are a few conditions. For most Brighton removals and house moves across Sussex we move these outdoor items separately in our Sprinter van as an additional service and cost. This helps keep your main load cleaner and reduces the risk of marks or damage to your indoor furniture and personal belongings.
If you prefer everything to travel together in the same space as your household items, we can do that, but it will be strictly at your own risk. We do not accept liability for any damage to garden items or to other belongings caused by them.
From experience with Brighton and wider Sussex house moves we have found that a lot of garden furniture and outdoor items are already weathered, rusty or simply less robust than indoor furniture, and living plants are naturally fragile. For these reasons our goods in transit cover does not extend to garden furniture, BBQs or plants, even when we are happy to move them for you.
We are in partnership with Big Yellow Self Storage Brighton. Contact the Brighton store on 01273 626202 to discuss your needs further.
We can usually work around you to get the job done, but please be aware that your initial quote is based on everything being fully packed and ready to go when we arrive. If we turn up to your Brighton or Sussex move and there is still a lot of packing to do, or furniture to dismantle that we were not told about, the job will take longer and your final bill will be higher than the original estimate.
Any packing or furniture dismantling should be discussed at the point of booking, or at the very latest before your house move starts, so we can allow enough time and the right size team.
From experience, when customers are still packing while we are moving, items are much more likely to get damaged. For this reason, we will not accept liability for damage to items on moves where the customer is still packing around us while we are loading and moving your belongings.
We often move small pets such as cats in carriers and small animals in secure cages alongside our Brighton and Sussex house moves. Carriers must be solid, closed and safe to travel and we will position them where they are stable and not exposed to drafts or direct sun. Larger pets such as dogs usually travel with you in your own car, but we can plan stops and timing around them and talk through what will be least stressful for them on the day.
Key delays can happen, especially with chains and completion days, and we are very used to working around it. We keep the day calm, stay in touch, and adjust the plan so we can keep things moving where possible.
If the job runs longer due to waiting time, it can affect the final time and cost, so if you expect delays let us know in advance and we will plan timings as sensibly as we can.
Yes. We can provide quotes and estimates for Brighton and Hove City Council relocations. The council normally asks tenants to obtain three quotes, and it is Brighton and Hove City Council who decide which removal company they choose to use.
As well as Brighton and Hove City Council, we have also carried out removals for Adur and Worthing Council and West Sussex County Council, helping council tenants with Brighton, Hove and wider Sussex house moves.
Yes. We try to keep our Brighton and Sussex removals service as eco friendly as we realistically can. Where possible we prioritise Esso eco fuel, we reuse and recycle moving boxes (including a take back option for clean reusable boxes), and we operate paperless by default for quotes, bookings and invoices.
If sustainability matters to you, mention it when you request your quote and we will talk you through the most eco friendly approach for your move.

We are listed and rated 98 out of 100 on RatedRemovals.com, which is a national review platform dedicated solely to the removals industry and widely regarded as one of the best removal directories in the UK.
In 2025 we were recognised in the SME Awards as a multi awarded Brighton and Sussex removals company, and we were featured in Runaway Easts Top 10 Office Removals in Brighton for a Stress Free Business Move.
We welcome any media outlet or press publication that would like to review our service, feature us in an article or speak to us about the Brighton and Sussex removals industry.
We did our first trade work and removals jobs in our hometown of Cambridge back in 2016, and have been working independently as ESV Removals Ltd, formerly East Sussex Van, since 2022. In that time we have carried out hundreds of Brighton removals and Sussex house moves, from small man and van jobs and student moves to full family home relocations. We now operate as a local family run Brighton and Sussex removals company, offering house removals, man and van services and office moves across Brighton, Hove and the wider Sussex area. We still regularly help customers with Cambridge to Brighton removals and offer very competitive rates on moves between Cambridge, Brighton and the surrounding areas, always aiming to provide calm, careful and reliable moving days for our customers.
We started our business in Brighton and most of our work is Brighton removals and Sussex house moves in and around Brighton and Hove, Lewes, Newhaven, Peacehaven, Shoreham by Sea, Worthing, Lancing, Burgess Hill, Hassocks and Haywards Heath.
We regularly cover the full BN postcode area and most RH, TN and PO postcodes, including RH1 to RH20, TN1 to TN40 and PO1 to PO41. For some RH, TN and PO locations there may be a small additional charge to allow for extra travel time and fuel.
Yes, long distance house moves are also a regular part of our work. We often move customers from Brighton and Sussex to places such as London, Manchester, Bristol, Edinburgh and across Wales and the rest of England. We also regularly travel as far as Scotland, Ireland and France for the right moves. For longer journeys we plan the route carefully, allow for breaks and possible overnight stops and keep you updated so you always know where your belongings are.
We also work in London and are happy to quote for longer distance UK and European removals. If you are moving further afield, give us a call and we will put together a clear tailor made quote. We have moved customers to and from France, Wales, Scotland and Ireland and we are always open to planning the next big trip. If you are looking at somewhere even further away, just ask. We are always up for a challenge if it is realistic with our vans and schedule.
To quote accurately for your Brighton and Sussex removals job, we need the collection and delivery addresses, your preferred date and time, and a rough list of what is going. Photos are also very helpful, especially for bulky furniture.
Please also tell us anything that affects access such as stairs, lifts, narrow hallways, tight turns, long carries, or parking restrictions. The more detail you give us up front, the easier it is to recommend the right van and crew size and keep your moving day calm and well organised.
We can provide between one and three men per van for your Brighton or Sussex move. For heavier furniture, stairs or larger house removals we will usually recommend a two man or three man and van team, but in the end we work to your specification and budget so you choose the crew size that suits your move.
We operate mainly on an hourly basis for local moves in Brighton and across Sussex, including areas like Hove, Lewes, Peacehaven, Newhaven, Shoreham, Worthing, Burgess Hill and Haywards Heath. There is no strict minimum distance for these local jobs. For longer moves outside Sussex, into London or to other parts of the UK and Europe, we provide tailored quotes with an itemised breakdown of the journey and services so you know exactly what you are paying for.
We do not provide a waste removal or rubbish clearance service. Our focus is on Brighton and Sussex house removals, man and van moves and deliveries. If you need waste taken away, this will need to be arranged separately with a licensed waste removal company or your local council.
We do not offer a full house clearance or rubbish removal service. Our focus is on Brighton and Sussex removals and man and van moves.
For furniture clearance in central Brighton we recommend donating to the British Heart Foundation on London Road, who provide an excellent free collection service for reusable items. You can contact their Brighton store on 01273 769080 to arrange a pickup. For anything that cannot be donated, please use a licensed waste removal company or your local council service.
Yes. We can supply boxes and tape, and we can also provide protective materials where needed. If you want packing help, we can offer anything from a part pack for fragile items through to a fuller packing service by agreement.
If you are not sure what you need, tell us what type of move you are doing and we will recommend a sensible option that suits your budget and timings.
If any of your items are damaged during your Brighton or Sussex house move, we will work with you to reach a fair solution. In some cases we may replace the item with a similar item in comparable condition. In other cases our insurance may pay out, which covers the second hand value of your belongings up to £20,000 per vehicle as part of our Brighton removals and man and van service.
If you have valuable items (anything over £500), please tell us before the move so we can note them on your booking and complete the additional insurance form.
Please note
If you do not make us aware of valuable items (over £500) on the booking form, we will not accept liability.
If you choose a one man and van service and use friends or other helpers to load or unload the van, we will not accept liability for any damage they cause.
If you think your goods are worth more than our standard £20,000 goods in transit cover, please tell us before you book. For higher value Brighton or Sussex moves we can notify our insurers, arrange additional cover for your removal and add any necessary insurance adjustment to your bill.
Yes, we can dismantle and reassemble most standard furniture and flat-pack items as part of your move, provided we have safe access and the right tools on the day.
However, we cannot accept liability for any existing or resulting weakness, damage or instability in flat-pack furniture. Flat-pack items are generally designed to be assembled once in their final position, and every time they are taken apart and put back together the fixings, joints and materials become weaker and more prone to damage.
We also cannot guarantee that we will be able to reassemble each item using only the original screws, bolts and fittings. Occasionally extra or replacement fixings may be needed to complete the job safely, and this may slightly alter the finished item.
We always take care when dismantling and reassembling, but by asking us to do this work you accept that flat-pack and self-assembly furniture is more vulnerable to wear and tear and is moved strictly at your own risk.
Yes, we can move high value designer furniture as part of our Brighton and Sussex removals service, but you must tell us about it in advance. Pieces such as Vitra and Herman Miller chairs, Barcelona chairs, Fritz Hansen designs and other collectible or iconic items need to be clearly listed on your inventory so we can plan extra protection and note their value.
If you do not tell us that you have designer or unusually high value furniture before moving day, these items may not be covered under our standard goods in transit insurance and will be carried at your own risk. Please flag any branded, designer or collectible pieces when you request a quote so we can confirm how they will be protected and what level of cover applies.
For long distance house removals we can provide vehicle tracking where necessary so you can follow the progress of your move. For local Brighton and Sussex removals and man and van jobs we make sure the driver keeps in touch and updates you by phone or message, so you always know where your belongings are and when to expect us.
Sometimes, depending on the item, weight, and access at both addresses. Very heavy items often need extra planning, the right crew size, and a realistic look at stairs, tight turns and door widths.
Tell us exactly what the item is and where it is going from and to, and we will let you know if it is suitable for our Brighton and Sussex removals team or if a specialist mover is the safer option.
A few items should not travel in the van, such as flammables, fuel, gas bottles and other hazardous materials. If you are unsure about anything, send us a quick list and we will confirm what is fine for your Brighton or Sussex move and what needs a different arrangement.
If you have something unusual, very fragile, or high value, it is always best to flag it early so we can plan the right protection and make sure the correct level of cover applies.
We keep moves careful and controlled, and we handle your belongings as if they were our own. We load properly, secure items safely in the van, and take care on stairs, doorways and tight hallways so we avoid knocks and scrapes.
If you have freshly painted walls, new flooring, awkward access, or fragile items you are worried about, just flag it when you book. We will plan the safest approach for your Brighton house move or Sussex house move so everything arrives in the same condition it left.
When you’re comparing a Brighton removal firm, we’d check five things:
If you’d like, request a quote and we’ll recommend the right van and crew size. And for recent moves and tips, follow us on Instagram.
If you are comparing Brighton removal companies, the main things to look for are clear communication, proven reviews, the right van and crew size for your move, and a careful approach on the day.
We keep things simple and well organised, give straightforward quotes, and handle your belongings with care from start to finish, so you feel looked after throughout the move.
You'd think that moving was simple and there wasn't a lot to say about it! But its a thriving business for a reason.
